Ron’s Journey: From Insurance Agent to Successful Brokerage Owner

Ron started in the insurance industry at a young age. After dropping resumes at countless banks (and getting nowhere), a friend invited him to join a brokerage in Airdrie, Alberta. He got licensed, joined the team, and quickly realized he wanted more.

In 2003, he bought his first brokerage. His brokerage grew into a thriving operation over 22 years.

Ron built it through smart decision-making, disciplined expense management, and a relentless focus on profitability — not just revenue.

By the time he sold in 2025, he had created a highly systemized business that commanded a strong multiple — approximately 7.5 times what he originally paid for it. That’s the kind of outcome every business owner dreams of: turning sweat equity into real, transferable wealth.

What Ron Learned Building (and Exiting) His Business

During his 22 years as a brokerage owner, Ron discovered what many business owners never do:

-              Revenue growth alone isn’t enough — profit percentage is what truly builds value.

-              Systems, processes, and playbooks matter more than individual hustle.

-              Buying power, vendor relationships, and operational efficiency can dramatically improve margins.

Ron didn’t just sell and walk away. He’s now actively acquiring other businesses and helping owners do the same. He’s deeply involved in due diligence, understanding what makes a business truly valuable to a buyer, and identifying hidden opportunities most people miss.
